Carl Through the Years

A small curated gallery... (he never did like having his photo taken!)

You are invited to join a gathering of family & friends to celebrate and remember Carl's life

Monday 22nd Sep 2025

from 1-4pm

@ JG Graves Woodland Discovery Centre, Sheffield

In Remembrance of Carl

Our plan for the afternoon...

1pm - Welcome Drinks

1.30pm - Food Amongst Friends

2.30pm - Stories & Reminiscing

3.30pm - Coffee & Dessert

Children are welcome, as are well-behaved dogs! We have private hire of the venue and there's a mixture of outdoor & indoor seating available - plus some lovely woodland for quiet reflection.

Sharing memories

Our hope is that this proves to be a positive, inclusive & celebratory occasion... where we can meet old friends and together pay tribute to the man that was Carl.

Everyone is welcome to share their tales about Carl's life - in fact, we'd love you to do so!

So do just let us know if you'd like to share your anecdotes and memoriesĀ  - whether in written form or by saying a few words at the gathering itself.

We are putting together an area where we'll be displaying photos and written tributes, so even if you can't make the gathering itself, if you have any photos, quotes or specific memories you'd like to add please do forward them to us in advance. Upload photos & tribute >

Dress code

No need to wear black... wear what you feel comfortable with.

Catering

Food & drink wise we are planning on wood-fired pizzas and a small selection of desserts - including Carl's favourite Tiramisu! There will also be a mix of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available.

Please let us know when you RSVP if you have any dietary requirements or allergies.

Whether you are able to attend on the day or not please do feel free to send us photos, tributes and memories of Carl through the years that we can share on the day and via this website.

I had a cool dad!

He loved music. I learned about The Smiths, The Cure, Stone Roses, Brian Eno, Zero 7, underworld and of course New Order because of him.

One of the brightest and wittiest man I’ve known.

Sharp as anything and a demon at just about any board game but particularly on a scrabble board.

He taught me to play football (badly) and fussball and more importantly about The Owls. In fact one of my happiest childhood memories is the 39th minute of the League Cup final in 1991 together with my brother Alex and Carl when John Sheridan defied the odds and hammered it in. ‘Always look on the bright side of life’ we sang to those Utd fans that day and it seems about right today.

RIP you battled hard and long. Up the Owls x
